High Key and Low Key Value

High key value:

High key means a high amount of light is present, that is lighter.(http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58333)
If we say a painting is "high-key" we mean that most or all of the image is light or pale in value. For example, colours mixed with white, called "pastels" or "tints", are high-key.(http://www.bigblackpig.com/painting/high-key.html)

Low key value:

Low key means a low amount of light is present, that is darker.(http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58333)
If we say a painting is "low-key" we mean that most or all of the image is dark in value. For example, colours mixed with black, called "shades," are low-key.(http://www.bigblackpig.com/painting/low-key.html)
